Instagram is making changes to protect teens and give power back to parents, but what does it mean? Pickr joins ABC to explain.
Around the world, parents and governments are beginning to talk about dealing with social media for young people, specifically those under the age of 18. There are several approaches, and while outright blocking and banning is one, the owners of Instagram are trying another.
Meta is beginning to roll out a special type of account for Instagram to keep teens accessing its service, albeit with restrictions. Parents will be involved for kids who joined with their actual age, and the service will even proactively work out who lied to get access, as well.
What makes the Instagram Teen Accounts idea tick, and does it have the chance of working to limit time using the platform? Pickr’s Leigh Stark joins ABC Adelaide Afternoons with Paul Gough to talk what’s happening in practically no time at all.
