Withings supersizes the scale to be an AI mirror

You’ll probably need a relatively large space for a future Withings gadget, but it could also change your life… and your health.

Understanding aspects of your health is something technology can truly assist with, but how much understanding you have can come down very much to the type of technology you have.

An Apple Watch can track health metrics and combine the information in Apple Health, and the same is true if you use a Pixel Watch or a Galaxy equivalent from Samsung. But how much deeper can the technology go?

Withings has already dabbled in some intriguing ideas with its tech thus far, including a sleep analyser that looks for sleep apnoea using the air exhaled from your lungs, as well as a urine analyser that never quite made it out to market.

We’ve seen some clever watches from Withings in the past couple of years that unite health metrics in a classic design, as well as some clever scales, too.

Now, the next gadget from the French health technology company could be its most intriguing yet: a smart mirror married to a smart scale for a holistic look at your health.

The concept is called the “Omnia”, and it aims to provide a very futuristic take on how your health analytics will look.

A mirror married to a scale, the technology will offer 360 degree health scans working to deliver a 3D model of your body, complete with sensor readings from a variety of metrics, including weight, heart rate, blood pressure, vascular age, water mass, bone mass, visceral fat, muscle-to-fat ratio, temperature, and electrocardiograph (ECG), features its scales already kind of handle.

Omnia aims to get a little deeper, offering pH balance, vitamin C analysis, and even access for your doctors or health professional to log in via the smart mirror to provide virtual consultations. When your doctor isn’t there, the mirror will provide metrics and insights into your health, with an AI voice companion there to air you through your metrics.

It’s worth pointing out that Withings hasn’t said quite how many of these metrics will be built into the Omnia base for analysis, and that some of these could end up borrowing from the Withings devices already on the market. Devices such as the ScanWatch 2 and ScanWatch Nova already include ECG and temperature, so you may end up needing one of those to get some of the metrics.

However, Omnia aims to track over 60 health aspects, joining the dots in a mirrored interface for people who have the room in their bathroom for such a device.

You’ll also probably need a decent amount of money for such a thing, too, simply because of the type of technology being used.

As it is, the Withings smart scales aren’t necessarily inexpensive, and we doubt a smart mirror will make that any more affordable. But with no pricing or Australian availability on offer yet, the idea is basically just something on the cards for the future for now.
