Roborock cuts AI, voice assist for less pricey robo-vac

All the bells and whistles may not be what everyone wants to spend on, and if that’s you, one of the better robotic vacuums will be a little easier to consider.

As good as owning the best of the best often is, it does tend to attract a higher price tag. Flagship phones can be expensive and top-tier sound systems are much the same, and so you can largely expect the same in other categories, as well.

The best robotic vacuums tend to command prices close to the $3,000 mark, and what you get for top dollar covers AI, voice assistants, mops and vacs and the ability to have the robot automatically lift the body up over small steps, too.

But if you don’t need some of those extras, such as the AI and built-in voice assistant, there may be a chance to save on costs. With flexible robotic arms on the cards for 2025’s robo-vacs, Roborock is showing what can exist in the mid-range if you drop some of the extras.

A variation on a theme, the Qrevo EdgeC is basically what happens when you take the Qrevo Edge model, but get rid of the AI obstacle analysis, the voice assistant you can talk to without your phone, and yet keep much of the rest of the hardware the same.

It’ll keep the strong vacuum with a small chamber that retreats back to its base for emptying, and will also retain the mopping system with both a fresh water tank and a spent water tank.

However it’ll also cut back on roughly $600 in the process, with an Australian recommended retail price of $2199 compared to the $2799 of its more AI-focused flagship brother.

Availability of the EdgeC looks set for late March, though it’s also likely there are a few other models just around the corner, too. It’s the cleaning season, it seems.
