Motorola drops 5G to $199 budgets

High-speed 5G connections are now officially for the cheap seats, as Moto releases the G35 5G, a properly inexpensive 5G phone.

It may take a few years, but the price of high-end features does eventually come to more price points.

Back in 2019 was when 5G first started appearing in phones, starting with the high-end before gradually making its way to the mid-range. And now six years later, it’s appearing at the properly low end of the market, as mobiles under $200 start to see the high-speed mobile technology known as 5G.

Motorola’s G35 5G is bringing that feature with a few others to a 6.7 inch Full HD+ screen, making it a big screen with 5G, as well as two cameras on the back, support for 128GB storage, and a sizeable 5000mAh battery suggesting there will be a good 1-2 days of battery life.

Google Pay will also be included, thanks to the support for Near-Field Communication (NFC), though there’s only 4GB RAM, giving you an idea of where Motorola has pulled back on features for the price. The chip is the other place where the Motorola has scaled back for budgets, offering the Unisoc T760 processor, a similar bit of hardware to what was also in the low-end Motorola G04 last year.

The two cameras on the back are another place, because while there are two lenses and sensors, it’s a 50 megapixel wide and 8 megapixel ultra-wide, while the front offers 16 megapixel selfie camera.

The price is easily the most compelling part of the package, with the $199 price point making it attractive for budgets, especially now that 5G access has more or less become commonplace. Granted, it’s technically locked to prepaid on this It’s still not quite in rural Australia yet, but with more telcos coming on board with 5G access, it’s easy enough to find, as is a 5G phone to take advantage.

“Our Moto G series is known for offering Australians great value for money, with the Moto G35 5G no exception,” said Kurt Bonnici, Head of Motorola Australia and New Zealand.

“This device offers 5G connectivity for under $200, allowing more Australians to experience the speed and reliability of a 5G network, without breaking the bank,” he said.

The Motorola G35 5G is available now in black from Vodafone prepaid for $199, with Optus prepaid on the way, as well.
