If you’re not sure whether a projector should be seen at all times, LG’s latest projector launching at CES is a clever solution.
Home projectors tend to fit in the category of gadgets that sit on shelves waiting to be used or gadgets sitting in front of walls waiting to be used, with the general difference really being the location.
They’re technically not TVs, even though laser projectors can be called and classed as TVs (the difference between a laser projector and a laser TV is the latter has a TV tuner built-in). However, because projectors aren’t TVs, they tend to sit on a shelf or entertainment unit waiting to get used. That’s just how they are.
In recent years, however, projectors have become more portable, whether that’s from Samsung’s Freestyle, Xgimi’s Halo, or even LG’s handle-based variation on the theme.
LG’s latest take, however, turns the projector more into a bit of furniture that serves more purposes. Not technically one of its CineBeam projectors, the PF600U is three gadgets in one, marrying a Full HD projector with a speaker and LED mood lamp that can run as either when not in use as a projector.
All of this sits on a stand and looks rather like a conventional fan, with the projector able to be repositioned to work as a projection system, or sitting upright as a nine-colour LED lamp. Meanwhile, the speakers also work as a sound system when the projector isn’t necessarily running, either.
LG will also have a new version of its CineBeam for good measure, coming in the CineBeam S, an ultra-short throw projector using laser light and featuring a 4K Ultra HD image. Technically, the CineBeam S isn’t a laser TV, as there doesn’t appear to be a TV tuner, but it will feature the same webOS as LG’s TVs, and offer the ability to project a big screen at a short distance, hence the ultra short throw technology.
As with all gadgets being announced at CES 2025, there’s no word on pricing for either in Australia, though if that changes, we’ll let you know.
