You mightn’t have thought about the sound a dishwasher makes, but if anything above a whisper is too loud, the latest breed will be a quiet clean by comparison.
The humble smartphone typically won’t raise volume while it works away, but your computer might depending on what it’s doing, and it’s not alone.
While many devices are whisper quiet, not every gadget works without raising a decibel counter. Some can be downright loud, almost as if a vacuum cleaner has gone off, and not one of those quiet robo-vacs, either. You know the type we mean. The loud ones.
Dishwashers typically fall in that category, with decibel levels ranging between 46 and 60dB, or to put it simply, between the hum of a fridge compressor running in the background and regular conversation between a couple of people.
It’s the difference between the level of quiet in a library or an office, and while it’s not the extreme 90dB loudness that can trigger an Apple Watch to tell you to get away from there to prevent hearing loss, it still might be too loud for some.
If you find yourself in the almost Goldilocks category of “my dishwasher is too loud”, you might be intrigued to learn about one that could be “just right” on its way to appliance stores shortly.
The latest from LG is the 15 Place QuadWash, also known as the “XD2A25MB”, a dishwasher with room for a dedicated wine glass rack and LEDs, both on the inside and outside. On the inside, the lights make it easier to see, while on the outside, it’s an LED clock that provides how much longer the cycle has to go.
Washing technology inside relies on four rotating blades with water jets sprayed from several directions, while a special “Dual Zone Wash” means that intensity levels for the water can change based on where in the dishwasher they are. Pots and pans on the bottom can be sprayed with a powerful wash, while glassware up top can use lighter water jets.
There’s also a steam technology to sanitise and break down food residue that just won’t budge using conventional washing.
But if you’re looking for a home that’s as close to silent as it gets, the feature that may grab you is the sound, or rather, the lack of it. Specifically, the LG 15 Place QuadWash will run at 40 decibels, thanks to its motor which has fewer moving parts than other dishwashers, making it run more quietly. You’re basically listening to a small motor and water muffled behind a dishwasher door.
A freestanding dishwasher, LG’s 15 Place QuadWash will set you back $1899 for the privilege, but it’s available now in matte black.
