Ecovacs’ latest robo-vac applies the pressure while mopping

Robo-vacs with arms and legs aren’t the only type of auto cleaners on the way this year. There are also vacs that’ll use pressure to mop and self-clean.

Automation may still be finding itself and looking for a reason to really help you in your life, but if there’s one area that’s great for most people, it’s cleaning. Sucking up dust, dealing with grime, and generally dealing with an area few people really love doing.

A chore to most, cleaning your home is one of those tasks most of us wish could just be handed to someone else. It’s one of the reasons why robotic vacuum cleaners are so effective: they roam around looking for dust and particles to clean up.

Much like the butter passing robot in Rick and Morty, they have one job: cleaning.

These days, however, that one job has been split into more than just vacuuming the floor. Robots that mow grass. Robots that wipe windows. Robots that clean the pool.

And there are also robots that mop, though more than ever, these are combined with robotic vacuum cleaners.

This year, we’re going to see robotic vacuums with arms that can move obstacles, robotic vacuums with feet for going up small steps, and we’re even going to see robotic vacuums with pressure mops to deal with stubborn stains to improve floor cleaning.

Ecovacs has one of those coming in the X8 Pro Omni, its latest flagship robo-vac that isn’t so much improving the vacuum side of things, but is instead focused on mopping. The roller mop inside the new vacuum not only includes a self-washing mopping feature, but can use hot water cleaning, hot air drying, and can apply up to 4000 pascals of pressure, making it capable of nudging tough stains.

The vacuum has even more pressure, supporting up to 18,000 pascals, while the vacuum uses a combination of cameras, LiDAR navigation, and artificial intelligence to create a 3D map, with an edge sensor so that it doesn’t try to throw itself off the patio.

“The first-ever Ozmo Roller Mopping Technology in the Deebot X8 Pro Omni is a perfect example of our commitment to setting new industry standards,” said David Qian, CEO of Ecovacs Robotics. “It not only delivers superior cleaning performance with its Instant Self-Washing Mopping technology but also represents a milestone in the evolution of robotic floor care,” he said.

The X8 Pro Omni may well be the flagship, but it won’t be the only robotic competitor to the likes of Roborock or Dreame. A lighter model with LiDAR is coming in the Deebot T50, also arriving with mopping capability, while Ecovacs also looks set to revamp its automatic window-cleaning and lawn-mowing options.

For the former, the Winbot window cleaner will see a new model in the Winbot W2 Pro Omni, a model sporting a portable docking station and path planning, while a smaller model will arrive in the Winbot Mini, designed for smaller homes, such as with unit and apartment living.

Folks living in a flat may need a window-cleaning robot, but they probably won’t need the company’s next robotic lawn-mower, the Goat. The latest generation is the Goat A3000 LiDAR, a model that uses a combination of dual LiDAR sensors, cameras, and 3D laser imaging to map and understand an area more completely. Meanwhile, there will be a smaller model in the Goat O, made for more compact lawns.

Like most things launched at CES 2025, there’s no word on exactly how much all of these will cost locally, but we’ll let you know what that changes.
