Subscribers to Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand will have access to more than just movies and TV shows soon, with sports on the cards, too.
Disney looks set to tackle Apple TV, Paramount, Kayo, and even Stan’s sports programming head on with its own sports hub in Australia, with its own service ESPN set to arrive on the Disney+ service in the next few months.
Already available on paid services Foxtel, Fetch TV, and even Kayo Sport, the introduction of ESPN on Disney+ will mean sports options will make its way to another service for people to tune in on, providing a little more competition in the sports entertainment world.
The launch will see more than 10,000 hours of live sports from ESPN’s overseas channels make its way to the service, working across both Disney+ subscription tiers that were added last year during one of the many service price rises, and joining other expansions, such as the addition of Fox movies and shows to the platform with Star.
“We’re excited to bring ESPN to Disney+ for sports fans across our sports-loving nations,” said Kylie Watson-Wheeler, Senior Vice President and Managing Director for the Walt Disney Company in Australia.
“Sport on Disney+ is an innovative game-changer. It further enriches our already strong and unique content offering, boosts value for subscribers, and serves sports fans anytime, anywhere,” she said.
The service will see an assortment of sports, covering basketball, baseball, hockey, and more when it rolls out in the next few months.
