Your kitchen may be home to coffee pods, but that’s not all it could see in pod variety, as beverage machines grow up in Australia.
If you’re wondering just where drink makers in Australia can go next, you might need to look beyond breakfast’s supply of coffee machines and such, and more to after midday and the evening when the more “adult” beverages are served.
There’s beer, wine, and spirits, of course, but there are also the blended beverages of cocktails, which can at times feel like you need a degree to use, as well as an assortment of instruments and tools. Strainers and shakers and jiggers and such, you might find you have everything you need, but you might also find you don’t, and just give up and pour yourself a shot instead.
Technology could well have the answer in a new type of appliance gracing Australia’s shores, coming in the form of an electronic cocktail maker.
Appearing inspired by the like of Nespresso’s pod machines as well as that of Keurig (which has machines in America we don’t have locally, but is the same pod-based principle), Bartesian looks set to offer cocktails by way of capsules and bottles of alcohol, of which you will provide for each.
A set of eight cocktail capsules will be found in a box, each of which contain the mixers needed to make cocktails, while Bartesian’s cocktail maker machine will take alcohol in the form of rum, gin, whisky, vodka, and tequila, and blend a cocktail without any real effort on your part. Simply throw in the pod, select the alcohol strength, put your glass under the spout, and you are largely done.
“Bartesian makes it fun to enjoy high-quality, premium cocktails at home without the hassle,” said Ryan Close, Founder and CEO of Bartesian.
Several years ago, Mr. Close worked on the idea to solve the problem of premium “on-demand” cocktails. A former bartender, the idea was to deliver this type of beverage in a convenient and accessible way.
The concept was one of several we actually checked out back at CES 2020 at a preview event, and a few years later, it’s clearly ready for prime time in Australia and indeed the world. Australia and New Zealand are the next stops on the release list, having followed launches in Europe, including Italy where the Bartesian capsules are made.
Locally, it launches for $649 for the machine, while eight-packs of the alcohol pods are priced at $34, with availability from electronic shops across the country.
