The high price of wearables could be one reason why you’ve not considered strapping a smartwatch to your wrist. And it might be why Samsung is reviving its fitness trackers.
Smartwatches may well be a great way to keep track of the day and your health, but they do tend to come with a hefty price tag not everyone wants to pay.
Even Samsung’s least expensive Galaxy Watch in Australia, the Watch 7, starts at $549. That’s a price that could force you to check out previous generations, or even competitors to the Galaxy Watch.
Alternatively, Samsung appears to have something on the way for folks who might want a wearable without the high cost, even if it does come at the expense of other features.
Instead, it will come in the form of a smart band, something we’ve not seen locally from Samsung in quite a while. It’s been a few years since a “Galaxy Fit” turned up on our shores, and that appears to be happening in the Galaxy Fit3, a wearable that brings a square watch-shaped tracker to wrists for $149 in Australia.
The wearable will see an aluminium body that looks a little like the Apple Watch SE, and may even have you think of other watches, complete with a 1.6 inch touchscreen up top while a heart-rate sensor sits at the bottom on top of your arm.
Activity tracking is a key part of the Fit3, as is sleep tracking with blood oxygen monitoring and coaching, but Samsung says the clock can also be customised from over 100 presets. You won’t find Samsung Pay support in this watch, however, though owners of a compatible Samsung phone will find it can work as a remote for the camera.
Rating for water resistance at IP68 and build to handle 50 metres of water (5ATM), the biggest drawcard could be that $149 price and possibly the 13 day battery life. Full-colour wearables don’t always hit these sorts of price points, potentially making the Fit3 an option for the frugal wearable buyer.
“At Samsung, we’re committed to providing Australians with advanced health monitoring tools and accessible resources to help them along their wellness journey,” said Kylie Mason, Head of Wearables and the Mobile Experience at Samsung Australia.
“We’ve seen Australians’ growing interest in gaining a comprehensive understanding of their health and wellbeing, and with our newest dedicated fitness tracker, the Galaxy Fit3, we mark another step towards providing a smarter and more enhanced connected snapshot,” she said.
The Samsung Galaxy Fit 3 is available now from select retailers and Samsung stores across Australia for $149.
