Renters may not get all the best features from a hard-wired video doorbell, but Ring has some updates coming in its $150 battery doorbell, too.
Having your own doorman isn’t something everyone has access to. While some buildings have someone downstairs in a lobby, most people don’t have a lobby to begin with, making the doorman impossible.
Thanks to technology, however, the virtual doorman can be attached to basically any door. That’s been the reality since 2016 when Ring initially launched the category of video doorbell, and has been evolving it ever since. New players have arrived since that first model, and that has seen Ring add features such as 3D tracking, but the basic battery option has largely missed out on big improvements.
However, the company’s latest option in the entry level is seeing some changes, as the Battery Video Doorbell updates some things and makes the camera that much easier to install.
The latest change sees the head-to-toe HD video provided, expanding the view by making it a 150 degree field of view and seeing a square picture, compared to the wide landscape-only approach the previous Video Doorbell offered. It’s a similar experience to what users of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro can see, and it also adds another of that model’s features: colour night vision.
There’s also support for motion detection and improvements to battery life, getting a little more: a little over 20 percent more than the previous generation.
Ring’s other addition comes by way of a new push-pin mount design, so you can attach the doorbell to a wall, but remove doorbell from the mount using a similar push pin to how you eject SIM cards from a phone.
“We’re thrilled to announce the next generation of our bestselling doorbell is coming to homes across Australia and New Zealand, following the popularity of previous models,” said Mark Fletcher, Managing Director for Ring in Australia and New Zealand.
“The new Battery Video Doorbell comes with a suite of impressive features, from Head-to-Toe HD video and Colour Night Vision, to customisable and advanced privacy settings, all with the versatility of battery power, making it a great fit for our Aussie and Kiwi customers,” he said.
In Australia, the Ring Battery Video Doorbell ia priced at $149 locally, with availability expected from September 4.
