Motorola switches on AI with 2024 phone beta

Owners of a recent Moto or two are getting access to a little more in their phone, as the buzzword of the year adds a feature or two.

It’s always nice when your phone gets an upgrade or two, giving it that little bit extra or even a few new features.

That’ll typically happen when there’s an operating system upgrade, and with Android 15 finally done and rolling out, Android owners might see some changes inbound much like how iPhone owners did this year with iOS 18.

But even before that happens, owners of a recent Motorola foldable could see a change or two, as well.

If you’re in the mood to live a little dangerously, Motorola is testing some new AI features with its first open beta program, making these additions available to owners of the recent Moto Razr 50, as well as the better Razr 50 Ultra.

The new features will see Motorola roll out improvements to the user experience, while also allowing an AI to connect photos and screenshots to a journal. Take a photo or snap a screenshot at the time, and the details will be stored to an on-device journal, much like how the screenshots app works on the Pixel 9 Pro XL and the rest of the Pixel 9 range.

Motorola’s AI features in testing will also include automated transcription and summary from recording meetings and other conversations, as well as a way to summarise what’s happened from all the messages and notifications you’ve received.

In short, it sounds like Motorola is doing what AI is known for at the moment: taking information and turning it into smaller, more bite-sized chunks for easier digestions.

Right now, the only Moto owners who can try it need a recent Razr, but they can sign up at Motorola’s website if they’re keen to try them ahead of every other Moto owner.
