Logitech turns to dials, LED keypads for creative control

A great mouse isn’t the only tool in the creative arsenal, as Logitech embraces more macros and a wheel controller for precision work.

Depending on how much creative work you do on your computer, you might have slightly more advanced peripherals than everyone else.

A decent mouse is a must-have for anyone working on a computer, but when you spend large amounts of time editing photos, making 3D art, or editing videos, you probably want better hardware that can be mapped to do some of the complex things with ease. Extra buttons that can be mapped to different functions, extra wheels for working up and down and across windows and menus, and just generally more control for what you do.

In the past, Logitech has delivered mice for this reason, with the MX Master series providing just that: lots of shortcut-mappable buttons and better optical technology for making precise movements. You can even drag from one computer to another.

Apparently, Logitech isn’t stopping there, with a new breed of its MX line on the way out for content creators in the “Creative Console”.

Not quite a keyboard or mouse, Logitech’s MX Creative Console is an extra two peripherals designed to work in tandem with a mouse and keyboard to extend control in creative apps.

The first is a dial which looks a lot like a jog wheel, providing a navigation controller that can be customised to match an app through the Logitech Options+ app, while the second is an LED keypad for programmable macros not unlike the style Elgato has released in the past with Stream Deck. Rather than focus on games, however, Logitech’s keypad will be about creative apps, supporting plugins and icons from a Logitech-connected marketplace.

“Digital creativity is undergoing a massive transformation, constantly evolving the way people create,” said Anatoliy Polyanker, General Manager for Logitech’s MX Business Unit.

“The MX Creative Console is designed to help people redefine their workflow, enabling them to work smarter and faster,” he said.

Working faster will come at a cost, though, with the MX Creative Console set for release in Australia for $349.95. Mid-October is when you can expect to find it across the country.
