You can’t escape devices needing AA and AAA batteries, but instead of buying more, Laser has an option that will keep you reaching for a USB cable.
Single use batteries aren’t great for the environment, but they’re just as bad for your wallet. Fortunately, the ubiquitous standard that is USB-C can be used for the purposes of keeping your gadgets charged, as another brand enters this arena.
We first saw USB-C batteries earlier in the year from PaleBlue, one of Australia’s first arrivals to deliver rechargeable AA and AAA batteries, not to mention the larger C, D, 9V, and chunky almost-camera-specific C123A with a USB port on the side. That was back in February, and now another brand is getting in.
Laser is set to offer a rival for the AA and AAA side of things, readying its “Recharge Core” batteries as lithium-ion batteries with a USB-C port, either up top on the AA batteries or on the side for the AAA variety.
Each Recharge Core battery lasts up to 1000 recharge cycles, and doesn’t need to be recharged in a dedicated lithium-ion charger, instead using a USB-C cable to charge a fully depleted battery in 90 minutes.
They’re priced a little higher than disposable alkaline batteries, though, with a four-pack of either AA or AAA USB-C rechargeable batteries retailing for $29.95 in Australia now.
