Intel readies faster AI-ready Core Ultra Series 2 chips

The Core Ultra chips we’ve been seeing in this year’s laptops? Child’s play, as Intel looks set for another Core Ultra series barely a year after the first.

The year of the AI PC isn’t yet done and we’re already seeing a second generation of the technology kick off boasting more grunt for PCs.

IFA has kicked off in Germany, the world’s mid-year consumer technology show where an emphasis is often made on home theatre, home appliances, and the occasional computer or two, and while we’re beginning to see home gadgets trickle in, computers are clearly a part of what’s happening.

Intel is ready with an announcement first, and it’s news of a new chip not so long after the last one. We last heard about Intel’s laptop chip refresh shortly before the end of 2023, with the arrival of those chips in 2024 laptops. Now it seems those laptops are already out of date, as Intel’s second-get Core Ultra chips are ready for action.

The new chips are the Intel Core Ultra 200V, also known as the Core Ultra Series 2, sporting improvements in system performance, graphics, and AI capabilities, with the chips making their way to computers by the end of this month.

Intel notes the AI is up to four times more powerful than the previous generation, while both the performance and efficiency cores have been rebuilt to keep the system cool and capable. The Intel graphics also features more grunt, with support for up to three 4K monitors at once, as well as some extra security features such as local AI deep fake detection for videos and AI scanning for malicious apps.

Overall, Intel says this will lead to improvements in the system and graphics, as well as improvements in battery life, too.

You should start to see the new computers shortly, with more than 20 PC makers onboard to use the new chips this year.
