Not just for Android devices, Google’s Gemini AI is making the jump to the iPhone, joining the likes of ChatGPT and Claude on Apple’s phones and tablets.
Owners of a recent Android phone might have seen their Google Assistant make the transition to something that sounds like it’s out of astrology, with Gemini delivering an AI take on an assistant when it launched last year.
More phones have seen the technology this year, including the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, but it’s not just Android devices getting into Google AI.
Gemini is now official on iPhone, as well, with a dedicated Gemini app arriving for iPhone alongside the in-browser existence iPhone users have been able to access.
It’s a year where AI seemingly penetrates everything, and clearly is a buzzword and trend that just won’t quit. There’s a new AI story weekly, it seems, and Google’s addition is yet another.
The addition brings one more artificial intelligence assistant to the iPhone, alongside the typical assortment of OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, not to mention the assortment of AI built into Meta’s Facebook and WhatsApp, whether you like it or not.
In terms of what Gemini can do, conversational AI is a part of the Gemini Live package, something that previously wasn’t available in either the Google app or the web browser Gemini experience, and it joins being able to create images from nothing much like Midjourney, creating quizzes on topics, while also answering questions and helping with text.
For iPhone users relying on the likes of Gmail, Calendar, Google Maps, and YouTube, Gemini will even link into these apps using extensions, allowing the AI to flex its muscles a little more.
This seems to be very much the norm of AI these days, extending what apps and services can do, though depending on what you need, you may need to pay a little bit extra. As it is, much like Google’s AI additions to the Chromebook Plus, the Gemini app is free on iPhone, though those little extras may end up costing extra.
