Fender shrinks an amp with the app-connected Mustang Micro Plus

Every bit of technology eventually gets smaller, and the same is true with guitar amps, as Fender reveals an app-connected compact amp with a built-in tuner.

Technology can change anything, and you only need to look at the world today versus fifty years ago.

Back then, we used wallets, cameras, wrote letters, made phone calls, and generally spoke to other people face to face or over a phone line only found at home or in the office, compared with being able to do all of that from one device.

Technology can benefit so much in so many areas, even affecting music, too.

While the humble guitar might not seem like much has changed, modern guitars have grown to become app compatible, and so, too, have the amplifier used to increase the volume of what you play. They’re getting smaller and more powerful, and Fender’s latest may well be the best example of that transition yet.

The latest addition is a compact amp that isn’t much bigger than the guitar lead jack you typically plug a guitar lead into, with the Mustang Micro Plus reportedly being a fair bit more than just an amplifier and lead.

The compact gadget takes Fender’s original Mustang Micro compact amp and brings with it 25 amp presets and 25 effects directly from the Fender Mustang amps, while also bringing compatibility for the Fender Tone app.

That alone will mean owners will be able to whip out their phones and tweak 100 preset slots to sound like other amp and guitar styles using Bluetooth, all without a larger amplifier nearby.

It’s distinct to the much larger connected Mustang amp that Fender makes, building something made for on-the-go playing and arrive arrives with a small OLED display and a tuner built-in. Further, you can simply plug in a pair of headphones to listen to an amplified guitar without needing the physically large amplifier in the process. There are a good four hours of battery in the Micro Plus, and it uses USB-C to charge from like everything else out there.

In Australia, the Mustang Micro Plus can be found for just under $300, hitting stores locally in the coming weeks for $289.
