An Australian approach to working from anywhere could make life a little bit easier if you’re used to working from more than one screen.
Covid changed a lot about our lives, and the WFH revolution was one of the things not everyone is keen to put back in the bottle.
While times and workplace attitudes have changed, and you might have to venture to the office a few times per week, there’s a good chance you’re trying to keep your experience the same where ever you work.
Doing that can be complex. A big screen is great at your desk at home, but move to an office where your seats are shifted around, and you may start to lean on your laptop more often.
It’s no wonder that portable arrangements like using an iPad with macOS Sidecar can be so popular, but even with that option, your laptop and tablet need to be set to work together under the same account. That may not be an option if one device is a personal option, compared to there for work.
Australia’s Espresso could well have something, though, and it’s one made for workers keen to take their extra screen to go, whether they’re at home or at the office.
The company has previously become famous for portable screens, and its latest takes a stand almost literally.
While the typical Espresso portable monitor is decked out with speakers and a touchscreen, the latest is a 15 inch model designed to work in conjunction with a portable stand that can prop itself above a typical laptop view, while also folding flat for easy carrying.
The Stand+ sees a clever design allowing it to magnetically mount to the back of Espresso’s screens, with the bottom plate — the feet, essentially — able to stand up like a tent, pushing the whole screen and stand even higher.
Meanwhile, the addition of the Espresso Display 15 forgoes the touch for a standard touch-less screen, offering a Full HD 1920×1080 display and keeping the speakers for your laptop. The whole thing connects to your computer using a Type C port, because those are now found pretty much everywhere.
“We believe ergonomics and productivity shouldn’t have to be jeopardised by travel, which is why we created Stand+, a breakthrough for achieving more natural viewing angles that we know our customers are seeking in their portable workstations,” said Will Scuderi, CEO and Co-Founder at Espresso Displays.
Hardware is one part of the package, but there’s also a software addition the company will add to its “Flow” screen management software. The new feature, “Glide”, aims to set the screen position to match its real-world physical position simply by sending the on-screen cursor to the edge of the display, rather than dive into operating systems to make the change.
The result aims to deliver a faster way of taking a more expansive screen real estate with you, whether you’re at home or heading into the office because work demands it.
Pricing sees the Espresso 15 and the Stand+ launch in Australia for $499 together, while owners of previous Espresso displays will find compatibility for the Stand+, which is available separately for $99 locally.
