Things are always changing in technology, but you can often get a glimpse of what’s next with software. Provided you don’t mind living dangerously, Apple’s betas could offer that.
It’s the middle of the year, and as we work our way to September, there’s a good chance you have updates coming to devices you own.
An update to Android devices in the form of Android 15 is on the way, and that’s not all, with pretty much every Apple devices also getting an update within the next few months.
Everything that’s coming was announced at WWDC back in June (which wasn’t that long ago), and thrust into a developer-ready beta for devs to get their apps in a working and compatible state. Now, Apple is ready for regular folks to try it, though the caveat is you’re still living a little dangerously.
Specifically, Apple has now made its upcoming operating system releases in public beta, meaning folks who don’t mind the occasional bug in pre-release software can experience what’s coming ahead of when it arrives officially.
That includes iOS 18’s ability to truly customise the phone experience, as well as iPadOS 18’s enhancements to Apple’s tablets. It also covers the next level of watchOS for Apple Watch, as well as tvOS 18 for Apple TV and macOS Sequoia for supported Macs.
It’s worth noting there is still very much an air of living dangerously in the public betas, because while these are less buggy than developer betas, they may also still have bugs. That could mean a crash here and there, an overheat, or maybe even a battery performance not quite lasting as long as it should be.
Just a note if you happen to want to try those public betas for Apple devices and live on the edge a little.
