Not sure about something at Pickr? That’s why we have an FAQ section, where we try to answer the big questions you have for our little site.
While it might seem like “Pickr” is just a shortened version of “picker”, the origins of the name are based in the origins of the research that led to Pickr being built. Pickr’s creator believes that research is one of the most important aspects of the product buying journey, and so “picking from research” is largely what the shortened “r” means.
Pickr started in 2015 as a project to track smartphone reviews in Australia, but over time, that has become less important. While Australian phone reviews are still very important, particularly to Australian buyers, the phone reviewing landscape has become much smaller and Google has become relatively reliable at sourcing them, and tracking their locations is less critical as it once was. As such, we’ve turned off the tracker for phone comparison.
We do not. We don’t even get paid to say bad things. No technology journalist or reviewer should get paid to say anything BY a company, and no one at Pickr can be persuaded to say anything about any company. Our news, reviews, and analysis are fiercely independent, and are based on methodology and experience.
Thanks for listening! Radio appearances are sometimes recorded and put online by the radio station, but depending on which one it is, you might not be able to hear it again. We try to keep logs of it all, so check out our media appearances section to help with that.
From time to time, you may see a crayon drawing in image sections of a post. It’s intentional, don’t worry, we haven’t lost our minds.
When companies decline to send us images for product stories, we’ve found we need to get our images from somewhere, so instead we’re having the product recreated artistically by one of the friends of the site. Granted, she’s a child, so her ability to artistically render smartphones and other consumer technology in all their intricate detail may not seem as high-end as computer-assisted drawing, but we think that until companies realise they should always include pictures with stories, it helps get the story online in a way that’s fun for both the editor and his young daughter.
Unfortunately, Pickr is not a seller of goods, or even of bads (if that is even a thing). Pickr is specifically a publisher of information and a tracker of various pieces of information for around the web, acting like a bit of a content supplier and review aggregator.
